Why People Care About Your Stories
This is the story of this story. I know, it’s weird, but let’s start with a simple question:
Why are you reading this?
I might sound crazy, but seriously, why do we care about other people’s stories? Why do we care so much that we have created a market now worth more than $400 billion?
This question has been rumbling in my head for a few days. Although I still don’t have a clear answer, here’s what I’ve come up with.
In the end it’s simple: we want to read good stories. That’s what writers want to write, and that’s what readers want to read.
Great stories leave the reader with something more. They reward the user for their time, they offer value.
Unfortunately, it is often difficult to objectively find and classify good content. For this reason, I believe that not all content is the same.
There are two categories of content:
1) Stories with objective value
2) Stories with subjective value
Stories that offer objective value are tutorials, guides, time-saving tips, etc. If you read this kind of content, you will know that it’s useful.
Of course, it’s not really “objective.” It always depends on who the reader is. But at least you…
